The story follows Mr. Valdemar, a gravely ill man whose body becomes the subject of an unsettling experiment at the threshold of death. As the attempt to hold him in a mesmeric state continues, the boundary between life and death begins to collapse, turning a clinical curiosity into a macabre encounter with the unknowable.
